Secretary Chu Awards $25 Million for Wind Technolgy

In its ongoing effort to promote the development of renewable energy resources the Department of Energy’s Secretary Steven Chu announced that $25 million will be awarded to the Wind Technology Testing Center in Massachusetts. This money is awarded from the U.S. government American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which was enacted to support the development of innovative forms of renewable energy sources while simultaneously creating jobs.

"This is part of President Obama's broad agenda to make sure that our country leads the world in capturing the clean energy jobs of the future," said Secretary Chu. "As the world moves toward a significant expansion in wind power, the test blade facility will help make sure that the best, most efficient wind turbines are built right here in America. Not only will it create jobs and help us achieve energy independence, it will mean cleaner air, cleaner water, and fewer greenhouse gas emissions."

2010 Budget Supports Energy Independence and Job Creation

On May 7, 2009 a detailed outline of the upcoming $26.4 billion budget for the Department of Energy in the fiscal year of 2010 was announced by the U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu.  Secretary Chu highlighted Barak Obama’s administration’s commitment to innovative science, breakthrough technologies and groundbreaking discoveries which will lead the U.S. to more reliable, clean, safe and secure energy; stimulate job creation and be kinder and gentler to our precious environment.
Not only adding funding to projects that promote energy independence and job creation, the budget also cuts back on projects that have proved inadequate or no longer useful.

Steven Chu explained,

"The President's budget for energy reflects his commitment to ending our dependence on foreign oil, restoring our scientific leadership, and putting Americans back to work through investments in a new green energy economy. It also demonstrates his commitment to using taxpayer dollars wisely—cutting spending on programs we don't need so we can make strategic investments in our economic future."

US Secretary of Energy Pushes for Increased Use of Renewable Energy

This effort was recently addressed by U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu , who on May 5, 2009 announced plans to utilize the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to invest $785.5 million in intense research of biofuels development and add to already existing funding for commercial-size bio-refinery demonstration projects.

Secretary Chu explained,

"Developing the next generation of biofuels is key to our effort to end our dependence on foreign oil and address the climate crisis—while creating millions of new jobs that can't be outsourced. With American investment and ingenuity—and resources grown right here at home—we can lead the way toward a new green energy economy."
